Happy Holidays(?)

The Holidays are right around the corner.  I’m sure you have heard the stats, as I have, that the Holidays are a time of increased depression for many.  I have wondered why a time of celebration could result in depression.  Maybe you have wondered too.   There are many opinions about what causes depression.  Proverbs 12:25 NKJV tells us the following:   “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.”   There are lots of pressures that cause anxiety this time of year.  Shopping, decorating, cooking, demands of family, and of course – money, can all pile up on us and result in anxiety which can lead to depression.   As marriage partners, let’s take care this season not to add to the pressure on our spouse.  Instead, let’s apply the latter part of the verse – “a good word makes it (the heart) glad.”   Christmas should be a time of happiness.  Speak positively to your spouse.  Tell them you love them, tell them you appreciate them, speak good words to them, and make their heart glad.
